Police on Hilton Head Island are looking for two suspects after a frightening attack on a woman late Friday night. The incident happened just before 10 p.m. near Pembroke Drive, which is behind the shopping area with Walmart and Publix on the north end of Hilton Head. This location is off William Hilton Parkway, close to the U.S. 278 split.
According to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office, the woman was in her car when she was robbed at knifepoint. Things turned even worse when the attackers forced her out of the vehicle and physically assaulted her. During the attack, they threw an unknown liquid on her upper body, causing serious burn injuries.
She was quickly airlifted to the burn center at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston for treatment. A fundraiser has been started to help cover her medical expenses, and within a day, over $3,400 was raised — nearly 70% of the $5,000 goal.
The authorities are still piecing together details about the attack. Sheriff’s office spokesperson Master Sgt. Danny Allen said investigators are working hard to confirm the facts. For now, they’re asking anyone who knows anything about what happened to come forward.
