A former East Carolina University interim chancellor, Dan Gerlach, is now facing charges related to a fatal vehicle accident. Gerlach, who resigned from ECU in October 2019 after surveillance footage showed him drinking with students, has been charged in connection with an incident that resulted in the death of a motorcyclist.
According to court records, the accident occurred on February 6th in Raleigh. Gerlach was driving on Neuse Road at approximately 9:30 p.m. when he failed to yield the right-of-way while making a left turn. This action led to a collision with a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction, resulting in the death of Ethan Murillo-Ceron.
Raleigh police have charged Gerlach with misdemeanor death by vehicle and failure to yield on a left turn. Court records indicate that he is scheduled to appear in court on March 4th to address these charges.
In addition to Gerlach, another driver has been charged in connection with the crash. Natasha Brandon is facing charges of felony hit and run with serious injury or death, as well as misdemeanor death by vehicle. Online records confirm her involvement in the case.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the accident, and both individuals charged will face legal proceedings in the coming weeks.
