Veteran Firefighter John R. Gaudet Dies in the Line of Duty in Binghamton, N.Y.
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – A firefighter tragically lost his life while battling a fire in Binghamton, New York. Officials identified the fallen firefighter as John R. Gaudet, an 11-year veteran of the Binghamton Fire Department.
According to city officials, Gaudet was fatally injured late Wednesday night when a wall collapsed during firefighting efforts. Emergency responders transported him to Wilson Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Binghamton Mayor Jared Kraham released a statement expressing deep sorrow over the loss. “This is an unspeakable tragedy, and our hearts are broken for the firefighter’s family,” Kraham said. In addition to Gaudet’s death, two other firefighters sustained injuries in the incident. They were also taken to the hospital but were later released in good condition, according to city officials.
