A Tennessee mother, Megan Boswell, is set to go on trial for the murder of her 15-month-old daughter, Evelyn Boswell, whose remains were discovered in a trash can on her family’s property. Boswell, now 23, faces multiple charges, including felony murder, aggravated child abuse, aggravated child neglect, tampering with evidence, abuse of a corpse, and several counts of false reporting to authorities. She has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Evelyn was last seen by her family in December 2019 when she was 15 months old. However, she was not reported missing until February 2020. After an extensive search, authorities found her remains in March 2020 inside a playhouse located on property owned by Boswell’s father. Megan was later indicted on murder charges in August 2020.
Jury selection for the trial began on February 3, 2025, nearly five years after the case first started. Opening statements followed on February 5, as reported by WJHL. Throughout the investigation, law enforcement stated that Boswell provided conflicting statements, making it difficult to determine the circumstances surrounding Evelyn’s disappearance and death.
According to Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) Agent Brian Fraley, Boswell’s father contacted authorities, informing them that a storage shed on his property might be of interest. Investigators searched the area and found Evelyn’s body inside a trash can hidden in a playhouse.
During the search for Evelyn, Boswell spoke with multiple local news outlets, but her statements reportedly contradicted each other. Sullivan County Sheriff Jeff Cassidy stated in a 2020 press conference that every time authorities interviewed Boswell, “her story changes.”
In 2022, Fraley testified in court that Boswell eventually told investigators Evelyn had died while co-sleeping. However, authorities have not confirmed her statement, and the case continues to be closely followed.
The trial is expected to reveal further details about Evelyn’s tragic death, and prosecutors will present evidence to support the charges against Boswell. The case has drawn widespread attention, with many awaiting justice for the young child.
