Fatal Single-Vehicle Crash in Carteret County, N.C.
CARTERET COUNTY, N.C. – A tragic single-vehicle accident in Carteret County resulted in the death of a 36-year-old man on Monday afternoon.
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the incident occurred around 1 p.m. on NC Highway 58 near Winsett Lane. Authorities responded to reports of a one-car crash and arrived at the scene to find a GMC pickup truck that had collided with a tree.
The driver, identified as Matthew Morris, a resident of Stella, North Carolina, was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators determined that Morris had been traveling south on NC 58 when he veered off the road to the right. In an attempt to correct his course, he overcorrected, causing the vehicle to re-enter the roadway before ultimately crashing into a tree.
