A shooting at a McDonald’s in Harris County, Texas, on Sunday evening resulted in the death of a 61-year-old bystander. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office reported that the incident stemmed from a confrontation between two groups of young individuals, which escalated into gunfire.
The victim, an older man who was inside the restaurant at the time, was struck multiple times. He was transported to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Authorities also confirmed that a 25-year-old individual, who was directly involved in the altercation, sustained gunshot wounds but is expected to recover.
Harris County Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant Dennis Wolfford stated that surveillance footage indicates most of the people inside the McDonald’s were engaged in the dispute, with the exception of the victim and restaurant employees. He noted that it was remarkable that only two people were struck during the exchange of gunfire.
As of Monday morning, law enforcement officials had located a vehicle and several individuals connected to the fight. However, the shooters remain at large, and authorities are actively working to identify and apprehend those responsible. The investigation is ongoing.
