Kentucky Storm Causes Deadly Flash Flooding in Clay County
A powerful storm system bringing heavy downpours and flash flooding has resulted in a fatality in Kentucky. Authorities confirmed that a 73-year-old man lost his life after being swept away by floodwaters in Clay County on Saturday.
The incident occurred in Manchester, Kentucky, as the man attempted to drive across a major highway amid severe flooding. Officials say he was unable to successfully cross due to the strong water currents. At some point, he exited his vehicle, but the powerful floodwaters quickly overtook him.
Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene to conduct a search and rescue operation. Unfortunately, the victim’s body was later recovered. The Clay County coroner identified him as Donald Keith Nicholson.
Authorities have issued warnings about the potential for continued flash flooding across Kentucky, urging residents to avoid driving through flooded areas and to seek higher ground if necessary. The National Weather Service has cautioned that more heavy rainfall is expected, increasing the risk of further flooding into Sunday.
Local officials continue to monitor the storm’s impact, and emergency teams remain on standby to assist those in need. The public is advised to stay updated on weather alerts and adhere to all safety guidelines.
