A man and his dog are lucky to be alive after spending nearly an entire day trapped in a wrecked truck deep in a remote forest in Sierra County, California. Their incredible story of survival began when the 36-year-old man from Calpine crashed his pickup truck off State Route 89 and down a steep hillside.
It wasn’t until around 10 a.m. the next day that a passing driver spotted the wreckage about 30 feet down the embankment and called 911, unsure if anyone was inside. When rescue teams arrived, they found the man and his dog still stuck in the mangled vehicle.
The driver later told authorities that he had lost focus while driving around 2 p.m. the previous day, causing him to veer off the road. For nearly 22 long hours, he and his furry companion waited for help, stranded and unable to get out.
After about an hour of careful work, emergency crews were able to safely free the man from the crushed truck. He was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries, while his dog, miraculously unharmed, was cared for by a friend.
The California Highway Patrol reminded drivers to stay focused and alert, emphasizing how important it is to drive safely. This close call serves as a powerful reminder of how quickly things can go wrong—and how lucky this man and his dog were to make it out alive.
