Trump Appoints Father of Convicted Jan. 6 Rioter as CEO of U.S. Agency for Global Media

On Wednesday, President Donald Trump made a notable announcement: he’s chosen L. Brent Bozell III, the founder of the Media Research Center, to lead the U.S. Agency for Global Media. Trump shared his excitement about the appointment on Truth Social, highlighting Bozell’s deep understanding of the media world.

“As the Founder and President of the Media Research Center for 38 years, Brent has unparalleled experience in print, TV, and online media. He’s been a strong voice for American values like liberty, freedom, equality, and justice,” Trump said. “Brent will make sure those values are heard loud and clear by freedom-loving people around the globe.”

In response, Bozell expressed his gratitude for the opportunity. “I’m truly honored by President Trump’s trust in me. There’s a lot of work ahead, and I’m excited to meet with Senators to discuss how we can best carry out the President’s vision,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

But there’s a bit of controversy surrounding Bozell’s appointment. His son, L. Brent Bozell IV, was convicted in connection with the events of January 6, 2021. He received a 45-month prison sentence after being found guilty of assaulting law enforcement officers and destroying government property. The elder Bozell had previously defended his son, particularly when prosecutors tried to apply a terrorism enhancement that could have added even more time to his sentence. In a letter, Bozell III argued that his son’s punishment should fit the crime, while emphasizing his son’s strong character.

While Bozell’s family ties may stir some debate, there’s no denying his long history in the media world. He founded the Media Research Center in 1987, a key conservative media watchdog. Additionally, he started the Parents Television and Media Council and helped establish CNSNews.

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Trump has chosen someone from the conservative media world for this role. In his first term, Trump appointed filmmaker Michael Pack, a close associate of GOP strategist Steve Bannon, to head the agency. However, Pack faced accusations of turning the agency into a platform for promoting Trump’s agenda, which raised some concerns about impartiality.

As Bozell III prepares for his new role, it’s clear that his leadership could mark a new chapter in the U.S. Agency for Global Media. With his strong background in media advocacy and commitment to American principles, he’s set to make an impact on global media landscapes.
