U.S. President-elect Donald Trump is not holding back when it comes to criticizing a key political decision made last year. In a recent post on Truth Social, Trump slammed the 2023 budget deal that extended the debt ceiling until January 1, 2025. The deal, which was agreed upon by then-House Speaker Kevin McCarthy and President Joe Biden, has now come under fire for what Trump calls one of the “dumbest political decisions made in years.”

Trump didn’t mince words, saying, “The extension of the Debt Ceiling by a previous Speaker of the House, a good man and a friend of mine … will go down as one of the dumbest political decisions made in years.” He made it clear that he believes the Democrats should be held responsible for what he called a potential disaster, especially since the issue could come up again in 2025. Trump urged that Congress should act now, not later, and that it should be a priority for the Biden administration to vote on this issue sooner, not later.

Trump also made sure to add a note of loyalty to McCarthy, calling him a “good man and a friend,” even as he disagreed with his decision. The clock is ticking, and with the debt ceiling suspension in place until the start of 2025, the pressure will build to address this critical issue soon. Will the Democrats take the lead, or will the Republicans step in? Time will tell.
