Donald Trump is never one to shy away from speaking his mind, and this time, he’s taking aim at former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy. On Sunday, Trump called out McCarthy for what he called “one of the dumbest political decisions made in years.” Ouch!
So, what’s this all about? Well, back in September, McCarthy made the decision to extend the debt ceiling through June, passing the responsibility onto the next administration. At the time, it seemed like a good idea, but Trump doesn’t think so.
In a bold statement, Trump said, “There was no reason to do it. NOTHING WAS GAINED, and we got nothing for it.” He believes this move was a huge factor in McCarthy losing his speakership.
Trump didn’t hold back, calling it a major mistake and claiming it was Biden’s problem, not ours. He went further, suggesting that the Democrats would love to see a crisis if it hurts the Republican Party. “They want a depression if it means hurting us,” Trump said.
He even warned that the debt ceiling issue could lead to disaster, adding, “The Democrats must take the blame for this… Not the Republicans.”
In Trump’s eyes, McCarthy’s decision was a major misstep—one that could have been avoided. Looks like the gloves are off when it comes to Trump’s thoughts on his former friend.
