Two Killed in Knife Attack at German Park, 28-Year-Old Suspect Arrested

A 28-year-old Afghan man has been arrested after a deadly knife attack in Aschaffenburg, Germany, that left two people dead and several others injured. The incident occurred in Schöntal Park in Bavaria, where a 2-year-old child, part of a kindergarten group, was fatally stabbed. A 41-year-old man, who tried to intervene, also died from his injuries. Three others, including a 2-year-old Syrian girl, a 72-year-old German man, and a 59-year-old teacher, were seriously injured.

The suspect fled the scene but was quickly apprehended by police. Authorities have revealed that the man had a history of mental health issues, though there is no evidence linking him to any radical ideology. The motive for the attack remains under investigation.

Chancellor Olaf Scholz condemned the attack, calling it “an unbelievable act of terror” and highlighting the need for urgent security reforms. The incident has reignited concerns over immigration policies in Germany, with far-right groups like the Alternative for Germany (AfD) blaming the attack on immigration. The AfD has called for “remigration,” a far-right stance on forcibly sending immigrants, mostly from Muslim-majority countries, back to their home countries.
