A Cook County Sheriff’s deputy, Shamone Duncan, tragically lost her life while on vacation in Turks and Caicos. The heartbreaking incident happened on Saturday night in the town of Providenciales. Duncan, a dedicated 20-year veteran with Cook County’s Department of Corrections, was caught in a stray gunfire incident at a bar around 10 p.m.
The Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force reported that Duncan, along with a local man named Dario Stubbs, was killed. A 29-year-old man was also injured in the same incident. According to the police, there is no evidence suggesting that Duncan, Stubbs, or the injured man were specifically targeted in the attack.
Authorities expressed their outrage over the violence, calling it a “despicable act.” They assured the public that they are committed to finding those responsible for this senseless tragedy.
Duncan, who was 50 years old, worked at Cermak Health Services inside Cook County Jail. Her colleagues and the sheriff’s office were devastated by the news. A spokesperson from the office shared their grief, saying, “Our hearts are broken for the family of Deputy Shamone Duncan.” They also emphasized their commitment to supporting her family and colleagues during this incredibly difficult time.
This tragic loss has left many in shock and mourning, especially those who knew and worked alongside Duncan throughout her two decades of service.
