Winter Storm Wreaks Havoc on Travel Thousands of Flights Impacted!

Winter weather is making travel a nightmare for people across the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic as storms sweep through both regions. Flight delays and cancellations are piling up, leaving travelers scrambling to adjust their plans.

By mid-afternoon Wednesday, more than 450 flights had already been canceled, and nearly 3,700 were delayed by at least 15 minutes, according to FlightAware. If you’re flying soon, it’s a good idea to check with your airline—many have issued travel waivers, allowing passengers to change their flights without extra fees.

If your flight is canceled or delayed significantly—over three hours for domestic trips or six for international—you’re entitled to a refund if you decide not to take the rescheduled flight. The Department of Transportation requires airlines to issue these refunds, and they also have an online dashboard outlining each airline’s compensation policies for disruptions.

For now, travelers should stay updated on their flight status and take advantage of rebooking options to avoid last-minute headaches.
