A tragic incident unfolded in Grantville, Georgia, when a Georgia state trooper shot and killed a 26-year-old man during a traffic stop over the weekend. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is now looking into what happened.
Here’s what we know so far. On the evening of January 18, around 8:40 p.m., a state trooper pulled over Cameron David James on I-85. James, who was driving a Nissan Altima, was taken out of his car, as the trooper planned to arrest him.
Things took a turn when, according to the trooper, James resisted being arrested. The trooper said he used a Taser to try to control him, but it didn’t work. That’s when James allegedly reached into his car to grab a gun. Fearing for his safety, the trooper fired his weapon, hitting James.
Even after being shot, James managed to get back into his car and drive southbound on I-85. He didn’t make it far, crashing on the side of the road. When other troopers arrived, they tried to give him first aid, but sadly, James was pronounced dead at the scene. No troopers were hurt during the incident.
Right now, there are still many unanswered questions. It’s unclear why James was originally stopped or why he was being arrested in the first place. The trooper involved has not been publicly identified, leaving the community waiting for more details.
