An off-duty Atlanta police officer is recovering after being stabbed multiple times during a heated confrontation in Rockdale County on Saturday.
Here’s how it all started: Around 6 p.m. on January 18, a hit-and-run crash took place on Interstate 20 eastbound near Panola Road in DeKalb County. A Dodge Charger reportedly hit a Chevy Silverado and then sped off. Things didn’t stop there. The crash, which Atlanta Police later confirmed happened in Conyers, quickly escalated into what appears to be a road rage incident.
The driver of the Chevy Silverado decided to follow the Dodge Charger into Rockdale County, eventually ending up near Salem Road. The chase ended in a parking lot off Wall Street, where both drivers got out of their vehicles and started arguing. That’s when things turned violent.
Authorities say 37-year-old Justin Perry Hurst, who was driving the Dodge Charger, stabbed the other driver several times. It was only later revealed that the victim is an Atlanta police officer. Thankfully, the officer was rushed to a hospital in Atlanta for treatment. Just before 7 p.m., officials shared some good news—the officer was released from Grady Memorial Hospital and is now recovering.
But the story doesn’t end there. Hurst fled the scene after the stabbing, and law enforcement is actively searching for him. Investigators believe he might be driving a white 2019 Volkswagen Passat with Georgia license plate CWC3082. They also mentioned he has connections to the Alpharetta area and warned that he could be armed and dangerous.
If you have any information about where Hurst might be, authorities urge you to contact your local police department. Your tip could make a big difference.
