Charlotte Officer Arrested After Shocking Domestic Incident Involving a Gun

In Charlotte, North Carolina, a police officer with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) is in trouble with the law. Officer Onesiphorus Williams was arrested early Tuesday morning after a domestic violence incident that reportedly involved a deadly weapon.

The arrest happened around 5:30 a.m. when fellow officers responded to the call. According to officials, Officer Williams is now facing two charges of assault for allegedly pointing a gun during the incident.

As of now, Officer Williams has been placed on unpaid administrative leave while an internal investigation takes place. This isn’t the first time CMPD has dealt with legal issues involving their officers this year. Several members of the department have been arrested and charged with crimes in 2024, raising serious concerns within the community.

CMPD Chief Johnny Jennings addressed the incident, sharing his disappointment. “I am deeply troubled by the arrest of Officer Williams. Our department holds itself and its officers to the highest standards of conduct, both on and off duty. This incident is a serious violation of those standards and a betrayal of the public trust we strive to earn every day,” he said.

This case highlights the importance of accountability, especially among those sworn to protect and serve. As the investigation continues, the CMPD faces the challenge of rebuilding trust with the community.
