In the 2024 presidential race, President-elect Donald Trump is shaking things up. He’s widened his voter base in a way that’s raising eyebrows, even among some of his loyal supporters.
Timothy Bachleitner, a leader in Wisconsin’s Republican Party, voiced concerns about Trump’s new coalition of voters. He worries that Trump has gained so much support from secular and independent-minded people that he’s no longer focusing on the conservative Christian base that helped him rise to power.
According to Bachleitner, “Trump’s got all these new supporters — from people like RFK Jr., Tulsi Gabbard, Elon Musk, and Joe Rogan — and now it seems like he doesn’t need to cater to the religious conservatives anymore.” And that, he says, is heartbreaking for those who feel left behind.
The shift is most evident in Trump’s stance on abortion. While right-wing Christian groups have pushed for a nationwide ban, Trump has refused to take that step. After the overturning of Roe v. Wade in 2022, abortion has become a tricky issue for Republicans, and Trump has focused instead on more pressing topics like inflation and immigration.
For some, this new direction feels like a betrayal. As Trump builds a more diverse coalition, it’s clear that he’s ready to move away from the issues that once defined his core base — and that’s making a few of his longtime supporters feel uneasy.
Trump is doing what he needs to do! He is one man trying to cleanup an unbelievably huge mess created by Biden and his minions of idiots. I am a Christian and believe he is doing the best he can. If you are unhappy with the abortion issue, get active in your State. It is now a State issue and not a Federal issue!
