In a heart-wrenching turn of events, authorities have arrested a man in connection with a deadly fire in Deerfield Beach. The blaze, which tragically claimed the life of 34-year-old Ana Paula Ribeiro De Souza and her beloved dog, has been ruled as arson.
What Happened?
Early Friday morning, just after 4:30 a.m., a wave of 911 calls poured in about a fire raging at a duplex near Northwest Fourth Avenue and 43rd Street. Firefighters and deputies from the Broward Sheriff’s Office rushed to the scene to find the home engulfed in flames.
Despite their swift response and efforts to control the fire, the outcome was devastating. Ribeiro De Souza was found in a back bedroom, and sadly, she did not survive. Her dog also succumbed to the fire.
The Arrest
After an intensive investigation, Broward Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit detectives identified 41-year-old Genivaldo Gomes Moreira as the prime suspect. Officials allege he set the fire that turned deadly.
The suspect, who neighbors said was Ribeiro De Souza’s boyfriend, fled the area in a gold 2002 Saturn. Law enforcement tracked him down in Manatee County and arrested him. He now faces serious charges, including felony murder, arson, and cruelty to an animal.
