A Texas community is grieving the loss of a well-loved barber, Octavian “Tave” Estrada, who was killed in an alleged road rage shooting. Despite an arrest, no one has been charged with his murder.
Over the weekend, hundreds of people gathered outside his barbershop to honor his memory. Among those attending was a single mother who recalled how Octavian generously gave her children free haircuts. To many in the community, he was more than just a barber—he was a mentor, a role model, and someone who was always willing to help others.
Family members remember him as a man who never hesitated to lend a hand, even in the most difficult situations. His niece, Carolena Estrada, shared how Octavian would provide haircuts for loved ones who had passed away, even traveling to the morgue to ensure they looked their best one last time. His nephew, Ryan Estrada, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that Octavian never turned anyone away.
On Friday, Carolena and Ryan were in shock when they learned that he had been gunned down while driving from Floresville to San Antonio. Ryan recalled that he had passed by the area of the shooting and became concerned when Octavian was not answering his phone.
Bexar County investigators say the incident stemmed from road rage after Octavian pulled into a Valero parking lot off Highway 181 South. According to an arrest warrant, he was shot in the chest after approaching a truck.
With the help of surveillance footage and witness statements, authorities identified and arrested 34-year-old Sean Anthony Samaniego. He has been charged with tampering with evidence but claims that another individual, whom he refers to as “Money,” was the one who fired the fatal shots. Samaniego admitted to driving away from the scene and disposing of a trailer attached to his truck.
Octavian’s loved ones are struggling to come to terms with the sudden loss of someone so full of life. Many of his customers, ranging from children to adults, are devastated. However, Sunday’s vigil focused not on the tragedy but on celebrating the life of a beloved son, husband, uncle, and friend who made a lasting impact on those around him.
