Tragic Loss: Rising Star Reporter 27 Dies Covering Super Bowl—One Year After Wife’s Death

A 27-year-old sports anchor and reporter from Kansas City, Adan Manzano, has died while on assignment to cover the Super Bowl in New Orleans, according to his employer, Telemundo Kansas City. Manzano, who also worked with Tico Sports, passed away on Wednesday, February 5.

Telemundo Kansas City released a statement describing Manzano as an exceptional professional and a rising star in sports journalism. They praised his dedication and talent, highlighting his contributions to both the station and the local community. The station also stated that they are cooperating with authorities as investigations into his death continue.

According to reports from NOLA.com, the Jefferson Parish coroner’s office confirmed that Manzano died in a hotel in Kenner, Louisiana, just outside of New Orleans. While an autopsy has been completed, the official cause of death remains pending additional testing. The New Orleans Police Department has not provided any information regarding the incident, and requests for comment from the Orleans and Jefferson Parish coroners have not been immediately returned.

Originally from Mexico City, Manzano pursued his education at Kansas State University. He became a sideline reporter for the Kansas City Chiefs’ television crew at the beginning of the most recent NFL season. This year marked his third consecutive assignment covering the Super Bowl.

Manzano’s personal life was marked by tragedy last year when his wife, Ashleigh LeeAnn Boyd, was killed in a car crash on April 11, 2024. She was remembered in an obituary as a kind and caring person whose joyful personality brightened every room. The couple leaves behind a young daughter, Eleanor.

Manzano was passionate about bringing football to Spanish-speaking audiences. Speaking to KSNT-TV last year, he emphasized the growing popularity of the Kansas City Chiefs in Mexico City and the importance of expanding football’s reach within Hispanic and Latino communities.
