Authorities in Wayne County, North Carolina, are continuing their search for 23-year-old Antonio Sanchez, who has been missing for three days. Sanchez was last seen at his job around 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, and his family reported him missing on Saturday morning.
Mount Olive Police launched an investigation, and search teams have been actively looking for Sanchez, who is believed to be somewhere on the grounds of Cliffs of the Neuse State Park. His vehicle was found in the park’s parking area, a place he frequently visited to fish. Given this, authorities have concentrated their efforts in and around the park, with a particular focus on the water.
Wayne County Emergency Management Coordinator Gary Tillman stated that teams are gathering as much information as possible to determine if Sanchez is in the water and to pinpoint his possible location. Several agencies, including the Arr-Mac Water Response Team, Seven Springs Fire Department, and Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, have been assisting in the search efforts. On Sunday, teams were primarily searching the water near where Sanchez was last believed to be.
Regular visitors to Cliffs of the Neuse State Park have emphasized the importance of safety while navigating the park’s trails and waterways. Hiker Anastasia Evanston advised caution near the water, noting that conditions can be hazardous, especially when the current is strong and the water appears choppy. Another hiker, Gwyneth Terrell, stressed the importance of not hiking alone, stating that it is always safer to have a companion while exploring the park.
Authorities urge anyone with information regarding Antonio Sanchez’s whereabouts to contact the Wayne County Office of Emergency Services. The search efforts remain ongoing as officials work tirelessly to locate the missing man.
