A heartbreaking crime has shocked a Missouri community after a man turned himself in for the murder of his 75-year-old father.
Jeffrey Goedde, 41, walked into the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office in Hillsboro just before noon on Wednesday, Dec. 18. According to police, he admitted, “I made a mistake. I committed a crime, and I want to turn myself in.”
What followed was a disturbing discovery. An autopsy revealed that his father, Edward Goedde, had been stabbed around 50 times and had suffered broken bones, strangulation, and severe injuries to his head, face, and back. The details were laid out in a complaint filed by authorities the next day.
Jeffrey reportedly told investigators that his father was “unconscious in the kitchen” and bleeding heavily after being attacked. He admitted he might have used a kitchen knife but claimed he couldn’t remember everything clearly.
When police conducted a welfare check at the family’s home on Baxter Heights, they were hit by the strong smell of bleach. Officers entered through a basement window and found Edward’s lifeless body in the kitchen. A kitchen knife was later discovered in a trash can nearby.
Jeffrey reportedly told officers he “knew he wasn’t free to leave because he accidentally killed someone.” Shortly after, he requested a lawyer and stopped answering questions.
Now, Jeffrey Goedde faces serious charges, including first-degree murder and armed criminal action. He’s being held at the St. Louis County jail without bond and is scheduled for a preliminary court hearing on Jan. 16.
This case has left the community in shock, with many struggling to make sense of such a tragic turn of events.
