A North Las Vegas police officer, 46-year-old Jason Roscow, tragically died after being shot in the line of duty on Tuesday afternoon. The incident occurred when Officer Roscow responded to reports of an armed individual. Upon locating the suspect, Roscow issued commands, but the situation escalated when the suspect approached the officer. Gunfire was exchanged between Roscow and the suspect, resulting in Roscow being shot multiple times. He was rushed to a hospital, where, despite efforts to save his life, he was pronounced dead.
Chief of Police Jacqueline Gravatt expressed deep sorrow over the loss, stating, “It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the passing of one of North Las Vegas’ finest.” She acknowledged the inherent risks of police work, highlighting that officers like Roscow choose the profession to serve and protect the community, fully aware of the dangers they face.
The suspect, who was also injured during the exchange of gunfire, was taken to the hospital where they later died. In a statement of solidarity, Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo urged the public to “pray for this officer and their family.”
The North Las Vegas Police Department shared their condolences on social media, mourning the loss of their colleague. “This tragic loss is a solemn reminder of the dedication and bravery of those who serve and protect our community,” the department said in its statement.
Roscow had been with the North Las Vegas Police Department since 2007 and served in various divisions, including Traffic and Patrol Operations. He was recognized with the department’s Exemplary Service Award during his career. This marks the first officer-involved shooting for the department in 2025.
