A terrifying road rage incident in Philadelphia left two young people injured after a driver opened fire during an argument at an intersection. It all happened on Monday, March 10, at the corner of 42nd and Girard Ave.
According to the Philadelphia Police Department, the shooter is believed to be a man around 40 to 45 years old. He was driving a silver Honda Civic, possibly a 2016 or 2017 model. Witnesses say things got heated between him and another car, leading to a dangerous confrontation.
That’s when the man pulled out a gun and started shooting at the other vehicle. Inside were two victims — a 15-year-old boy and a 20-year-old woman. The boy was hit in the left arm, while the woman suffered a graze wound to her chest. Both were rushed to the hospital — the boy to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center and the woman to Lankenau Medical Center. Thankfully, they’re both in stable condition.
As for the shooter, he sped off after the attack and hasn’t been caught yet. Police say his car is pretty distinctive — it has damage on both front quarter panels, a missing passenger-side front hubcap, and a white vanity tag on the front bumper.
Surveillance cameras in the area caught some of the action. In one clip, the driver is seen sticking his head out of his window, yelling at a black car next to him. Another angle shows him pulling up to a stoplight and firing his gun before driving away.
Authorities are asking the public for help. If you see this vehicle or know anything about the suspect, don’t approach him — just call 911. You can also share tips anonymously by calling 215-686-TIPS (8477) or filling out an online form.
Sadly, this shooting was one of at least five separate incidents that shook Philadelphia from Monday night into Tuesday morning. Seven people were injured in total. But police remain hopeful they’ll solve these cases soon. “Our clearance rate is up from last year,” said Deputy Commissioner Frank Vanore, adding that new technology and video footage have been key in cracking down on violent crime.
